Robert Mapplethorpe received his first Polaroid camera in 1970 from Sandy Daley. His works both challenged the standards of the time and referred to them, and, as the author himself says, were intended to look for the non-obvious. The main subjects of the photos were black and white portraits, flowers and male and female nudes. The photographer's works are considered outstanding and are kept in the most distinguished museums around the world. His legacy lives on through the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation, which was established in 1988 to promote photography, support museums exhibiting photographic art, and support medical research on AIDS and HIV.
